Apogee One, DPA 4099, DeVoe Negra, MacBook Pro, Pro Tools 9.5 and QSC K’s

Ive been wondering if there would be a way that I would be able to play live and travel with just my guitar case and a laptop.  I think the answer is yes.  I have been using the Apogee One a very small (size of iPhone) interface that allows me to hook up the DPA 4099G mic that clips onto my DeVoe (phantom power supplied from Apogee One) the Apogee One hooks up to my MacBook Pro with USB 2 and then I run either Pro Tools 9.5 which to my ears sounds better than Logic or Main Stage (However Logic and Main Stage do sound ok just not as smoth or more bright inho).  Then in Pro Tools I am using three tracks on for the Gutiar Mic, then two different drum programs Strike and Boom.  Then off the one I have a stereo line out to to XLR connectors that run to the QSC K8’s.  The sound is fantastic I do use the BBE sonic max plug in for my main mix as well.

Fix iWeb in 10.6.2 The million dollar Trick

This works great

Here’s how to fix the “iWeb quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plug-in” error.

This is called “The million dollar trick or how to fix iWeb in 10.6.2″ since a lot of people struggled with it since the 10.6.2 release. With no real solution. Simply deactivating Hoefler Text as suggested on the ADFs doesn’t really solve it. Now here you are…

1. Go to Applications => Font book
2. Select Hoefler => Ctrl+click on it and “Remove Hoefler Text Family”
3. A message will appear telling you that all Hoefler files will be trashed
4. Emptying trash you will probably be told that the file is in use. Restart your computer and after the restart empty the trash.
5. Click here to download Hoefler text
6. You will find a folder called “11628″. In it you find a file called “Hoefler Text.dfont”
7. Move that file to:
Macintosh HD => Library => Fonts

Start iWeb and you will see that it’s perfectly working.

Just plug it all and and the dongle for all my Waves plug ins and Im set to go. I can also record with this set up. This is my setup primarily for Nylon String Flamenco with the DeVoe

N.E.D.i Great iPhone App

Great new iPhone app for learning new software on your mac. Watch on the iPhone. I have used N.E.D for two years to learn Pro Tools 7&8, Logic 7&8, and Reason 4.


The above pics are screen shots taken from the iPhone using the actual N.E.D.i app on the iPhone. So far the program is working great. Great Job. If you use NED teaching tutorials get this it really is a great idea.

Record from Propellerhead

Tried out Record from Propellerhead v1.1. I think they did a great job. If your a Reason user it’s only 149.00 to get a full copy. What I really liked at this point was how good the audio sounded. I used a Shure KSM 141 Mic with the Apogee Duet and just the Record application and it sounded great. It looks like it will take some time to get used to the layout and mixing consle/window. I like that it links so well with Reason 4.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard Review and Updates

Looks like it was a fairly easy install. I did however have to do it two times. The first time I think it timed out because I was not near the computer. It did install w/o any trouble the second time. It did free up some space and seems to work well. Will post more later. Some pics of the update that Apple sent and screen shots below.

Update:  There are definitely some comparability issues with some of the music programs in Logic Pro 9 as well as Pro Tools 8.0.1  Spectrsonics Programs and a few of Digidesigns programs were not stable and Logic froze up a bit.  May switch back to Leopard.  WAS able to get Spectronics things working well again.  There was a problem though when I would shut down Trilogy.  Reason 4 needed to have the disk installed again and all the passwords stuff entered.  It seems thought to work.  Looks like I will be doing some reformatting on my flight.

iPhone 3Gs

I am really liking the new iPhone 3Gs transfered my files from the my other iPhone, all the apps transfered over, runs quicker and I really like the voice command, movies.  So far works great and Im glad I did take advantage of the ATT early migration to the new iPhone.  Same price as a new contract or new user.  Looking forward to making some quick movies and being able to post them quickly.

Works great with my Mac Book Pro 17in 2.8 runnion OS 10.5.7  Picked this up today at the Apple Store for 30.00 it allows me to take the SD card from my camera or recorder and transfer the files with out having to attach the unit itself.  Transfer very quick as well.

Protect Ports on Mac Book Pro

New Apple Mac Book Pro 2.8 17in. Awesome

Just picked it up. I’ve had it for less than a day. It’s up and running only a few program glitches. Aptura the synth package is not running/can’t be installed other than that all is pretty good and looks great, running faster. There were a few other music program that i dont have the passwords for so I was not able to install them. The guys at Apple in Freehold Raceway Mall were amazing as well my Genius Kevin and Kenny, as well as the store manager Eric Bloomfield. Im really happy that things worked out so well and Apple stood behind what they said. Never received any kind of service from the PC world like this. Again Thanks Apple

iPod shuffle

Ordered a new iPod shuffle for my CA trip it’s so small the lengnth if a wooden match it’s smaller than one of my fingers oh well that may not be saying much. I had my name and “Just Play” engraved on it

I love it it works great

It works very well took a bit to get used to the cliks on the ear buds but now I can move around well. I think the key is to have good play lists set up for this iPod. Will work on my play lists a bit more refined this weekend.

Mac Book Pro 17 in Dead Again

My Apple Mac Book Pro 17in is dead again. The cernals are jamed at 100% so everything locks up. This is the 3rd time as well as many trips to the Genius bar. A logic board, top case, hard drive have already been replaced. Today the genius said they will replace the logic board and hard drive. Will see at the end of the week how it turns out.

Kensington Battery Pack and Charger for iPhone and iPod

Picked up on of these chargers from Apple online and will use it for my trips to NYC on the train and when I fly, as well as in the office and around town. Looks good and for 100 hours of play back in music, 21hours video, and 6 hours of talk time. I should be good.

iPhone 3G Ok I broke down and got the 8gig

I went to the Apple Store Park City Lancaster PA grand opening with my dad, and met Ken Marks there so we could get our new Apple T Shirts. I broke down when I saw my bud Taz S. and asked “Can I buy and iPhone today” he said yes and that was that. So Kathy will get the 2nd Gen iPhone 4 gig.
