Trillium Lane Labs TL Space RTAS Plug in for Pro Tools

I am really liking how great this sounds.  I have  been playing with the chamber reverb and used it with just the DeVoe.

Lost 21 Lbs on Atknis so far

I have lost 21 Lbs in 11 days on Atkins so far fealing great. Sugar cravings are almost gone, sugar is a piosion is my new mantra. I like how it is working. It was hard the first 4 days. (Update)

Looking forward to Saturday

Hope to work out a few new songs with Taz in the studio. And begin getting them ready for mastering. Taz had to cancel. However I tried some things with Pro Tools LE 8

Kathy’s Tree

My Christmas Present from Kathy & Charlene

Thanks for this great guitar chair

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all

Its been a great year for us the Tarassov’s Kathy and I are doing well, we have loved having Toni move in with us for this season of her life. The Studio has grown and Sonma is well. We have seen lots of changes up and down in 2008. We are grateful that were still together and have some wonderful friends to share our lives with. I am also grateful to all the folks I have worked with at Light House as well as the Malvern Institute. Thanks for letting me into your lives to take a look at some very hard things as well as trusting me to come along side of you to challenge and grow out of our commfort zones. Im sure this year will bring its challenges and we all need allow change in our lives. I was viewing a old grad student frind of mine on Face Book and he had a quote from Heneri Nouwen on his page that said “When we become aware that we do not have to escape our pains … those very pains are transformed from expressions of despair into signs of hope.” May this come true for us.
May we seek our Lord and trust in Him for our comfort and direction. He really is the reason for this season. God Bless you all Shalom and Merry Christmas

DIGIDESIGN Pro Control “soon for Palm Recording Studio will replace the Mackie Pro Control for Pro Tools”

Pro Tools 8 LE at Palm Recording Studio Screen Shots

I just installed Pro Tools 8 LE on all of our Studio Computers last night. What you are hearing are all the sounds that were either created or captured in Pro Tools 8 LE using the Digidesign 002 without Black Lion Mods. The guitars were a 1978 Fender Strat into a Line 6 Pod XT Pro, Lester DeVoe Flamenco Negra captured with a Neuman M 149 Tube mic into a Martech MSS 10 mic pre. All other sounds are completely from Pro Tools LE 8. I really liked setting everything up was very easy to transition from Pro Tools 7.4.2 to 8. I didn’t realize that you did not have to uninstall Pro Tools 7.4.2 before you did the update so I did a complete reinstall from 7 to 7.4 to 7.4.2 (updates) to 8. That way I was able to use everything from my iLok including Mp3 conversion. So far no problems worked great with the Mackie Pro Control. Will be recoding this weekend our next CD and most of the songs will be captured in Pro Tools 8, Im really considering switching from Logic Pro 8 to Pro Tools.

iPhone Captures the Palm Recording Studio

The Keyboard sounds are from the Yamah Motiff from Gutiar Center in Langhorne PA. I was there yesterday and was playing the keyboard and decided to use the iPhone Four Track to capture the sounds. It is a great keyboard for 3000.00 The Pictures are from Palm Recording Studio, Trips to CA, Sonoma Coast CA, and Mystic CT. Oh and yes our dog Sonoma.

Pro Tools 8 at Palm Recording Studio

Pro Tools 8 is downloaded now at the Studio. Were now recording in Pro Tools 8. I love the new layout. Were up and running on all our Macs easy set up and gorgeous layout. I really am enjoying the new Pro Tools 8 set up and work flow. I think I will be working alot more in Pro Tools 8.

Palm Recording Studio Update

img_1931_2We have decided to replace the Mackie Control Universal with a Euphonix MC Control and Faders. We may also try out some Pro Tools gear. Were leaning heavely on the Euphonix. We moved some gear around this weekend to make more space for some new gear.  Hear are some pics of the new set up

New Set Up at Palm Recording Studio

Black Lion Digidesign 002 Upgrade Were scheduled to get one mid Jan 09

Analog Stages + Mic Pres
We’re able to completely rework the entire analog stage, including the mic preamps, line inputs, voltage reference circuitry, and headphone amp. We’re fans of Burr Brown’s OPA4134, and we substitute those for the TL074 opamps used in the mic preamp and line inputs. We’re able to reduce analog stage noise created by the 002’s phantom power circuitry as well as reducing the RF noise created by the 002’s switching power supply.

The Clock
While experimenting with clock designs, we found that we liked the quality of the audio better when the master clock frequency was increased. Due to the superior nature of third overtone XO crystal oscillators (they have inherently less jitter than fundamental XO oscillators), we decided to increase the 002’s original master clock frequencies, and then divide them by two to obtain the needed frequencies. We started with a pair of ultra-low jitter (1 picosecond average) XO oscillators, one for 44.1 kHz and its multiples, and one for 48 kHz and its multiples. We use a proprietary method that keeps accumulated jitter and switching noise to a bare minimum: under 10 picoseconds. Coupled with our approach to converter configuration, we’re able to bring the 002 to a level of performance that rivals or exceeds digital systems that cost thousands more.

Taking the 002 even further
Over the last few years, we’ve experimented with several different design approaches for digital audio, starting with the power supply and moving into advanced theories of clock and data harmonic structure. We came up with several unique approaches to the 002 and 003 modifications. These are practices that aren’t used by any other manufacturer. We’ve found them to yield sonic improvements that rival the most expensive conversion systems available in pro audio today.

We began using a low-emission toroid to power the analog and digital stages separately because it improves overall sonic character. It also completely eliminates the power supply as a source of crosstalk between the analog and digital circuitry. This is available on both the Tweak Head and Signature Series modifications.

Converters are very sensitive to their power sources, and proper configuration is very crucial. Although there is an approach commonly used by all manufacturers, we began experimenting with new design theories. We approached it from the perspective of minimizing resonant frequencies and current noise within the power supply, and the resulting overall impact on the conversion process. After almost six months of testing, we came up with a proprietary method for configuration of the 002’s converters. We feel the end result represents a great breakthrough, and takes the 002 to a completely new level of sonic quality. This is included on every 002 and 003 modification we perform.

Our latest effort has focused on the overall harmonic structure of the master clock, and the overall sonic effects yielded during the conversion process. These experiments have yielded our 220/270SP Master Clock; a master clock system that we feel is among the best in the industry. This is available only on the Signature Series 002 and 003.002_sigature
