New Set Up at Palm Recording Studio

LS 8-oh-8 Sounds Great

The 8-oh-8 pedal from LS sounds better than the origional Tube Screamer IMHO. Hooked it up to the Fender Princeton just a bit of verb and sonic nervonia.

Felt a Little Prog Rock Kind of Mood

All sounds were created using a Mac Pro, in the box Gutiar Rig 3, Rob Paplan Pro 53, Stylus RMX and I used the Roland GI 20 to use the Fender Strat as the midi triger.

AM at Palm Studio

I’m in the studio early today.

sE Electronic IRF Instrument Refection Filter

Picked one up from GS to try with the Bose L 2 System.

Boo on Bose and UPS

Man this had been one of the worst shipping experiences I have ever had.  Bose says they shipped UPS says they never got it.  All in all everything but the speakers have made it to me but the system with out the speakers is no good.  They keep saying it will be hear but its not as of 9:40 even thought Bose paid an extra 100.00 to have it shipped and delivered by 9:30 guaranteed.   I think all this guarantee is bs.  Shame on Bose and UPS you can’t pick up orders, ship on time, you lost packages and dont deliver on time.  YOU take our monty but dont deliver on your promises.

Stage Line Wooden Guitar Stand

Picked up this stand from Sam Ash for 19.00

New Mesa Engimeering LoneStar Amp

Brought the amp back to GS because there was a major buzzing when I hit the A string or played lower A’s on the guitar neck.  Was not the speakers and it looked like all the tubes were ok.  We no longer will be using Mesa amps there seems to be others that have this problem.

L1® Model II single bass package with ToneMatch® audio engine

The L1® Model II single bass package with ToneMatch® audio engine should be hear on Thurs or Fri.  Can’t wait to try out the Bose system and start playing out with Taz and the boys.

Kathys Helper

Just click Kathys-Helper and you will be brought to a screen where you can hear the DeVoe that was recorded today using the new Apogee Ensemble.  We used a Neumann M149 Tube Mic and the Martech MSS 10 Mic Pre.

sE Electronics GM 10

The sE Electronics GM 10 came today and I just tested it with the DeVoe and it sounds great. It really was brand new in the box unopened. I picked it up for 130.00 on eBay. I’ve been looking at these for about a year and a hafe. They go new for 450.00-500.00. Very happy with the mic and will use it with the Bose system.

The GM10 incorporates the world’s smallest gold sputtered mylar capsule at 17.1mm, along with a proprietary shock mount assembly built into the capsule head. A universal clamping system enables the user to fix the mic in place (on any flat backed acoustic guitar) so the condenser capsule is perfectly placed top record take after take from exactly the same position.

The clamping mechanism and shock mount ensure that there is zero mechanical noise transferred through the guitar body. This allows the user to capture a perfect recording every time, while still being able to move around freely, which encourages the performer to give their best on a take.

The Guitar Mic really does transform recorded performances of acoustic guitar, and the way you work in the studio.

Premier Guitar “We nicknamed this mic “the voice of God.” Omnipresent is not an overstatement. It’s a huge sound, bold, rich and deep with fantastic representation of detail and a shimmering yet substantial high end. It gets mounted to the guitar with a clever arm and shock mount, which incorporates the XLR connector. It takes a little time to get it on at first, and then it takes some getting used to as it restricts movement just a bit. But this mic is always in the sweet spot when you’re on stage or recording, and it sounds phenomenal either way.

Audio Media “The sound of this small fixed cardiod mic is fantastic, in comparison with a conventional large diaphragm mic; it was quickly noticeable how well it captured the high frequencies and its off-axis response really gives a very natural sound with plenty of harmonics from the guitar. I really have to take my hat off to SE Electronics for the approach it seems to have with its hand-built mics. The GM10’s ergonomic design and clever thinking will certainly will make life much easier for recording high quality acoustic guitars with a minimum of fuss.

Tim & Vic on the Green Screen

Tim B and myself did some filming for the Mark 12.30 Project. This was done on the green screen. Taz did the editing.

Bose L1 Model II

Taz and I were talking this weekend and have decided to start playing out and this is the sound system that we will be using to mic the DeVoe and the Keyboards and Drums as well as Logic Pro and Spectronics Omnisphere. Keep checking we will soon start and be playing out.

The L1 Model II system delivers wide horizontal sound coverage and smooth tonal balance—across the stage and throughout the room. It includes the improved Cylindrical Radiator speaker with a stand that folds to be more portable, a B1 bass module, plus cables, power cord, and carrying bags for the various components.

Like the original award-winning L1 system, the L1 Model II is an all-in-one innovation that replaces conventional monitors, mixers and PA speakers. It’s packed with proprietary Bose technologies designed to improve your amplified sound.

The system’s breakthrough Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker produces wide, uniform sound coverage—onstage and throughout an audience of up to several hundred—with little drop off in volume and tone.

The new L1 Model II system features Articulated Array speaker technology for even greater tonal balance. The loudspeaker’s 24 vertically mounted drivers are precisely angled to create clearer highs and more consistent tone in the room. Even people off to the sides enjoy well-balanced, detailed sound.

Deep bass from small enclosures
L1 Model II systems come with one B1 bass module to ensure more accurate amplification of lower notes for most voices and instruments—including guitars, keyboards and various horns. A double bass package is recommended for bass guitars, kick drums and DJs.

The B1 bass module is considerably lighter and smaller than conventional bass bins required for the same performance. Power up to two bass modules on a single power stand. Add two more bass modules to the system with an optional PackLite extended bass package.

Lighter and more compact
L1 Model II systems are Bose’s lightest, most compact live amplification systems—with four retractable legs on the power stand for easy setup and breakdown. The power stand also has a simplified control section; the single line-level input can be used with instruments, mics, mixers, laptops, MP3 players or DVD systems.

These lighter systems are built to handle the road. The loudspeaker has a rugged, reinforced grille, and each package includes padded carrying bags for major components.

Powerful option: ToneMatch© audio engine
Add the optional T1 ToneMatch audio engine to quickly expand the system and fine tune your sound with powerful, proprietary tone-shaping tools.

The compact, multichannel engine provides fingertip control of the Bose library of ToneMatch presets. Just touch a button to make hundreds of precise refinements to the sound of instruments and microphones.

The engine also features a complete suite of studio-class reverbs, additional effects and dynamics processing. It connects to the L1 © Model II system via a single digital cable for quick, streamlined setup.

The Bose L1 Model II system includes these impressive features:

Loudspeaker
Cylindrical Radiator and Articulated Array technologies – The loudspeaker’s 24 drivers are arranged using Articulated Array technology in a slim, vertical enclosure—creating very wide horizontal coverage and consistent tonal balance. Musicians and audience members to the sides and throughout the venue hear fuller, more detailed sound with little dropoff in volume and tone.

Two-piece, interlocking design – For quick and easy transport, setup and breakdown of Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker. Each section of loudspeaker is 43 1/2″ (1.1 m) high. Unique, proprietary design includes interlocking bayonet and center and bottom latches.

Power Stand
Integrated power amplifiers – Provide clean, precise amplification for L1 Model II system with up to two B1 bass modules. Musicians can play soft or loud, with confidence the system will accurately amplify their performance.

Analog input, trim control and signal/clip LED – Line-level analog input accepts 1/4″ TRS phone cable. Can be used for instruments or other audio sources like DJ mixers, MP3 players, computers or DVD systems. Trim control lets you adjust the level of analog input signal. Signal/clip LED indicates status of analog input signal.

Bass module out – Delivers amplified bass output signal to one or two B1 bass modules. L1 system automatically adjusts equalization appropriately when bass modules are connected. ToneMatch port – Digital audio and power connection for ToneMatch© audio engine. Use with included ToneMatch cable.

Bass line out – Post-DSP bass signal output. Accepts 1/4″ TRS phone cable. Use to connect the optional PackLite amplifier with up to two additional bass modules. Can also be used to connect powered subwoofer or additional amplification system.

Retractable legs – Provide stability for streamlined L1 Model II power stand and loudspeaker. Four retractable legs fold out of power stand simultaneously for quick setup and compact transport. Small footprint also frees up room on tight stages.

Bass Module
Compact, lightweight enclosure – Easy to transport, setup and breakdown. Small footprint takes up considerably less space than traditional bass cabs required for same performance. Fits between legs of power stand. Interlocking feet on the modules make it easy to securely stack up to four modules together on their sides.

Highly efficient speaker design – Two 5 1/4″ (13.3 cm), high-output, high-excursion drivers produce deep strong bass from an elegant small enclosure. When connected to power stand, active equalization circuitry automatically adjusts bass signal appropriately. Rugged, twist-lock connector on bass module lets you link two modules together.

Brian Eno’s Bloom Raises the Bar for Musical iPhone Apps

Brian Eno, the father of ambient music and one of the greatest musical minds of our time, has just teamed up with musician/programmer Peter Chilvers to create one of the coolest, most unique iPhone apps to hit the App Store yet. Called Bloom, it’s “part instrument, part composition and part artwork.” It’s also a must-get.

Unlike most music-creation apps, it doesn’t take an existing musical instrument and cram it awkwardly into the iPhone’s interface. Instead, it creates a completely new “instrument” designed specifically for the iPhone. Essentially, you’re provided with a colored screen and a quiet drone. As you tap the screen in various places, different tones play depending on where you tapped. They then loop, creating a unique piece of music on the fly, one that changes gradually on its own once you stop tapping.

You can also just let it create music on its own, coming up with a new, unique piece every time you run it. It’s also beautiful, with the tones appearing as colored spots that slowly fade. It’s as satisfying to actively play with as it is to let do its own thing.

Bloom is available on the App Store now for $3.99, and if you’re a fan of ambient music or music in general, you’ll be wanting to get it right now. [Bloom (iTunes link) via The Apple Blog; Thanks, Purns!]

Back Axe

Well my Back Axe came from Elderly Instruments this morning. They were able to overnight it from MI. However the manufactur who is in CN was not able to ship one out over a three week time period. While Mark from Back Axe did refund the money and said it was unacceptable that was on the 22, then I asked him to overnight it and call me, he never did. I’m not saying that this is a bad product I’m looking forward to using it. However the customer service and poor excuses are not welcomed. I really don’t like when you have paid for a service and some one just says sorry with out any effort to make things right. I wish the Ritz Carlton philosophy was taught in every school, religious institution and governent agency like DMV and Social Seceurity for those who are disabled or handycaped. I well enughf hear. I’m looking forward to my trip out to CA to see Charlene, Charles, Thomas, Jason, and Misty the cat. As well as all the other great Califorinians and wine country folk. Also thanks to Michal M. For your gracious gifts to make this all happen. So me and my DeVoe & Numann are going to Cali!
